The finger looks like a rather glum-looking cat so I don't know what Boots will make of that. Not lunch, hopefully, but he does only seem to chew long-dead things ...
Boots! Another useless doggy how dare you.
He is very concerned and is taking a philosophical approach to it. i.e. he is thinking how glad it is that it wasnt him. Boots is always composing or inventing or something else equal to his multitude of talents.
Useless, no he just sleeps a lot. Thinking is after all very tiring.
