Don't they go slow any more?

This week the boats are ripping past the moorings at a tremendous pace, and as always the private boats are the worst culprits...

Now, I am not complaining per se, but the tow path around here isn't great, and speeding boats pulling on X tonnes of steel moored beautifully with huge pins and springs isn't doing the tow path any good. There isn't anything that can be done about it, but I do think it is a shame.

Not to mention my balance! I fell over twice this morning as my boat rocked heavily from side to side from the passing boats.

oh dear... I am sounding like a grumpy old man!!!!

oh dear... I am sounding like a grumpy old man!!!!... or just me. No, wait, erm...

I do wonder if these people have never actually moored, or are just so self-centred they don't think they should afford anyone else any respect. I do think that's the problem - people jusst don't actually give a shit.

I didn't get a picture, but someone had made a fake speed camera at some moorings near the bottom of the Macclesfield, I spotted last week.

Thakfully at Iver so few people go to Slough that it isn't really a problem...

Well said Simon. The problems these days is a lack of respect for others. If these people want to speed, why don't they go back on the roads. The canals are in a bad enough state without them making it worse. Bones I hope your ok after your tumbles. One of these days someone is going to get sued for speeding past moored boats. Jo

Speed Humps are what you need, a couple of shopping trollies positioned correctly with little plastic ducks floating above them, if they are going slow enough they can get round the little ducks, to fast to turn then its full stop with the bows 3" higher than normal.
How is the woffer?

Bones, We are on the K&A and last night at Avoncliffe the boats were coming down at such a pace we had a bent (yes bent) moring pin and two pulled out! One boat came down at such a pace they missed the tight turn and basically hit the bank.

Oh hum! It's Bank Holiday weekend and the traffic is increasing!

Hi bones we are on the Shroppie and we have already had one chain snapped. As you rightly say the majority of the culprits are private boaters. Will be glad when this weekend is over.

Gosh, I thought it was us hirers that always got blame! We were moored in Rugely when a private boat went past at full throtle. Our pins pulled out and the boat drifted. I was in the shower and my wife asleep. Fortunately we were rescued by a fellow moorer.

On the bright side I was able to talk to a local resident from a house opposite the moorings who was born on a FMC working boat.
